chance

From the whelping box on Chance was always a delight to be around. Always happy always full of energy. He was everything I hoped for from my first litter when I bred Sunnee to Golly. Fabulous temperment, beautiful head, incredible coat, moderate size. His 1st place in bredby at our first National just confirmed he was going places. He threw himself into agility with verve and enthusiasm.
Obedience was harder (so much socializing to do!). He was crazy about water and loved retrieving ducks. A serious back injury at the age of 2 stopped any chance of a performance career. We were told he’d need to be kept on crate rest the
balance of his life to prevent further damage but Chance refused to have anything to do with it. Life was meant to be lived not survived.

Two days after a major grooming session I found a lump on his neck that had not been there. First thought was it was one of those sebaceous cysts but after closer exam I noticed it was shaped a bit odd. Not liking the shape, color, or location I took him to the vet. He was diagnosed with a very fast acting round cell cancer. Two weeks later he lay in my lap as my tears dripped on his face. The vet holding back emotion so his hand could remain steady and not cause any pain as the needle allowed my beautiful boy to drift off to sleep. His body now rests under the willow trees at Helen’s house. His spirit is on the rainbow bridge romping with those who have gone on before him. I know when we join him he’ll be waiting there with his head cocked to the side and his eyes smiling brightly.

This picture to the left was taken just afew months ago. I’m so glad we decided to take his picture before he faded.
