bogie

Bogie is the ultimate southern gentleman. Relaxed, friendly, and always willing to go hunting with a friend.

Due to circumstances at the times, each of Bogie's breedings have involved him going to the bitch's home. Each time the breeder threatened to keep him!

He's a very special boy; who is passing on his awesome temperment, soundness, and structure.

Helen - I just read about Bogie passing. My condolences to you and Dave. He was such a sweet boy, loved everyone and everything. And I loved my time hunting with him - he was such a great biddable dog. He will be sorely missed. Fortunately he has passed on his greatest attributes to his kids - Presley got Bogie's sweet temperment and great desire for birds and retrieving. And of course his good looks too! So I hope he is having great fun there at the Rainbow Bridge - he deserves it! I'm going to go home tonight after work and hug Presley and tell him his Dad went away. Then I'll take him out pheasant hunting tomorrow morning and he can show me what Bogie passed on to him. Thanks for sharing Bogey with the IWS community so we could improve the breed - he will be sorely missed by everyone who knew him! Jim

(OFA Excellent / Elbows Normal /
Eyes Clear / Thyroid Normal* )

In early 2008 Bogie had an on again off again limp on his right leg. The diagnosis was a soft tissue injury from running on the hill behind the house. In April his leg was xrayed to verify no structural damage. The elbow looked fine and the vet diagnosed some crate rest and anti-inflammatories. In May his leg was xrayed again and there was now a mass on his elbow. Diagnoses was a Malignant Histiocytosis. Further xrays showed that it had already metastasized to his lungs. With a cancer that fast acting we were told we had less than 3 weeks to prepare. No therapy was considered to be effective enough to be worth putting him through.

Well Bogie surprised even our IWS-experienced vet with his grace and determination. For over 3 months Bogie maintained his cheerful disposition and continued romping through the house. We knew we were living on borrowed time but what beautiful time it was. With Helen's care and the help of some homeopathic medicines the swelling in his leg stayed low enough he could still run and play. But borrowed time only lasts so long. Bogie started slowing down and life became an effort. While his attitude remained good and his eyes shining it was clear his body was failing him. It was time to let Bogie know it was ok to go. The vet came to the house and Bogie was able to leave us from the comfort of his favorite sleeping spot. Bogie now rests in same garden with many of the friends and family that he will have met at the Rainbow Bridge.
